Victorian Cod Season now open!

The time to go cod fishing is upon us! Cod season is now open in Victorian rivers.

Check out this monster that Marc caught at Lake Eildon! 103.5cm in length.

He caught it with a Primal Spinnerbait, which has a double spin action to increase your catch rate.

Primal Spinbaits are perfect for catching those elusive Murray Cod – and there are heaps of Murray Cod out there this year, thanks to restocking programs run by the Department of Fisheries hatcheries.

You may even be lucky enough to snag a golden-tagged Murray Cod!

The VFA is still running its GoldenFish competition, with up to 1,000 of these Fish released in rivers and lakes through East Gippsland and north-east Victoria – including Murray Cod. Catch a Fish with a golden tag, and receive a cash prize of $2,000!

The Golden Fish competition is a government initiative designed to encourage fisherman back into bushfire-affected areas such as Mallacoota, Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Orbost, Marlo, Mitta Mitta, Omeo and Bright.

'We want to get people back to East Gippsland and the north east with family and friends, spending money and helping local communities get back on their feet,' says Jaala Pulford, Minister for fishing and Boating.
