Simrad AP24 Mechanical Helm Drive Autopilot system

The new Simrad AP24 Mechanical Helm Drive Autopilot system includes everything you need to connect to your cable steered outboard engine.

This revolutionary unit replaces the manual drive used on cable steer boats with a type S Shaft >Drive Unit, which is mounted directly behind the dash.

Simrad AP24Mechanical Helm Drive Autopilot system is directly compatible with the Morse 290 steering Helm, the Type-S Helm drive also comes with its own bezel kit and can be retrofitted, in most cases, using the cable and steering wheel already on board your vessel.

The kit includes:

  • Type-S Helm >Drive Unit which is easy to Retrofit, using existing Morse and Teleflex steering cables
  • High contrast AP24 display for Autopilot control
  • FC40 Compass with accurate fluxgate Compass sensor
  • AC12 Autopilot computer with dedicated fishing turn patterns as well as optional interfacing to Multifunction devices for using steer-to-waypoint mode
  • Simnet cabling allowing quick and simple installation to Simrad MFDs and other devices.

If your Boat has rack and pinion steering, then the cable must be replaced with either the Morse 304411 or Teleflex SSC52.

The depth required behind the dashboard will vary depending on the drive type, but on average they require about 250mm (10inch) clearance. If this space is not available, it may be possible to re-route the wiring harnesses or move components. Additional clearance may also be achieved using spacers.

A great system allowing you more control over your Boat, the AP24 Helm Drive Kit helps you be at ease behind the wheel.
