Introducing VDO Marine Instruments

Here at CH Smith Marine we are proud to stock a Range of top quality products and so we're pleased to introduce VDO >Marine Instruments to our line-up.

Based in Switzerland, for the last 60 years VDO has been providing solutions in the form of gauges, sensors, integrated systems and remotes to suit the marine environment.

VDO's story kicked off in 1958 when they produced their first series of marine tachometers – which were then later presented at the the Milan International Boat Show. Word spread, and VDO's popularity grew very quickly – with good reason.

Since then, VDO has continued to build a reputation for its innovative products – with a series of firsts.

After introducing its first marine gauges, VDO also developed its first marine sensors - first pioneering the Sumlog sensor, a mechanical speedometer, during the 1960s. Sumlog sensors became the industry standard for measuring speed through the use of paddlewheels, long before the introduction of GPS in the 1990s.

The world's first marine GPS gauge (the NAVPAC) followed shortly after, along with the first combined analog and digital instruments (called LOGIC) in 1992.

More recently, VDO introduced their AcquaLink, OceanLine, OceanLink and ViewLine ranges, which are used today on yachts and sailing boats all over the world.

VDO also supplies customised display and instrumentation for all the top engine manufacturers, including Mercury, Volvo Penta, Yamaha, Honda and Isuzu.
