PRR

Similar Terms: pulse, pulse frequency, PRF

Pulse Repetition Rate - or Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) - refers to the number of pulses of a repeating sonar signal, usually measured in pulses per second.

Signals are transmitted via speed of sound in the water, with maximum PRR depending on the size of the object you're looking at.

For example, the speed of sound in water is 1,497 m/s. The ocean is approximately 2 km deep, so sound takes over a second to return from the sea floor. Sonar has a low PRR for this reason.
