Platypus - CH Smith Marine

Platypus

Platypus fishing lines was started in 1898 by a Scottish rope maker who saw and took an opportunity to make line for the fledgling Australian fishing industry. Since then, Platypus has passed through the family, currently the fourth generation McPherson is involved in running the business. Platypus has always prided itself on innovation; producing Australia's first extruded nylon fishing lines in the 1960's and more recently investing in a braiding plant for the popular Gel Spun Polyethylene braided lines.

Platypus is recognised in the plastics industry as an authority on Nylon monofilament extrusion and consequently produces many products other than fishing line, from hi-tech fibres for mining and medical applications to bristles for brushes. Today Platypus is proudly based in Brisbane, Australia over 100 years later. Platypus Australia remains owned and operated by the same family that established the company in 1898.
