Vertical Pixels

the term used to describe the vertical or depth Resolution on fishfinders. It is the number of vertical picture elements (pixels) in a single column of the LCD display. A larger number of vertical Pixels provides finer Resolution of targets that are detected by the return sonar.

Essentially, the vertical distance when divided by a larger number, breaks that depth into smaller samples, each representing a smaller and more defined area, thus providing more detail. In fishfinders, vertical Pixels are more critical than horizontal Pixels because the horizontal axis of the display represents time, or history.
