Skin Fitting

Similar Terms: Skin Fittings

refers to the fittings used to maintain any hole through the Hull of a Boat, to allow seawater in (ie. for engine cooling) or waste water out. Skin Fittings below the >Waterline must be fitted with a valve (sea cock) so that they can be closed.

Materials used to manufacture skin fittings can vary, depending on the type of Hull they are installed in, with Bronze skin fittings or dezincification resistant brass (DZR, usually marked CR), nylon and Stainless Steel being commonly used. Do Not use brass fittings - normal brass is a copper/zinc alloy and the zinc will leach in saltwater, leaving weakend copper in its place
