MIL-STD-810E

MIL-STD-810 is a series of performance and manufacturing guidelines set by the United States Department of Defence (DOD), hence the MILitary STandarD abbreviation. Specifically it is the Department of Defense Test Method Standard for Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests

MIL-STD-810 is a globally accepted standard for the manufacture and environment testing of the ruggedness of mobile computers and equipment. The standard covers 24 categories and thereafter specific procedures or testing methods appropriate to the environment in which the equipment will be used. Some examples of the environmental conditions in which equipment might be tested include; altitude, temerature shock, fungus, humidity, salt fog, vibration, hot and cold temeratures or even explosive atmospheres - depending on what the equipment needs to withstand.

Product ratings can vary, some will be MIL-STD-810E compliant, while others will be MIL-STD-810F compliant or even MIL-STD-810G, as the latest revision of MIL-STD-810E & MIL-STD-810F (see revision timeline outlined below). The tests and methods are much the same, but have been re-written to provide clearer direction.
