316 Stainless Steel has an increased molybdenum content (to a maximum of 3%) which increases its resistance to corrosion – hence it's other name, marine grade Stainless Steel. 316 stainless will not corrode in the harsh marine environment. It also has a higher tensile strength compared to >304 stainless. Originally known as 16/10 which stood for its chromium and nickel content respectively.
