Ratings given to define how well an extinguisher is expected to perform for the type of fire. When multiple values are given this indicates the extinguisher is suitable for multiple types of fire.

 

A - Wood, paper, plastics - Numerical value indicates amount stored and amount of fire it will extinguish

B - Flammable liquids - Numerical value states the approximate number of square feet of a flammable liquid fire that a non-expert person can expect to extinguish

C - Flamable gases - Numerical value states the approximate number of square feet of a flammable liquid fire that a non-expert person can expect to extinguish

D - Flammable metals - Usualy specific for a certian Metal, typically have no numerical rating

E - Energised electrical - Typically no numerical rating

F - Cooking oils & fats - Rated between 1 and 4
