Cold Start

GPS: Cold Start refers to the procedure performed by a GPS Receiver when there is no known information to use as a starting point, ie no historical data regarding its Current location. This procedure typically takes several minutes (the longest out of any of the starting procedures cf >Hot Start, warm start), and may be experienced upon first power up, or if the Receiver has been moved a great distance.

Essentially the GPS device dumps all information, attempts to locate the required number of satellites and then calculates a GPS lock.
