UL

Similar Terms: UL-tested

UL, or Underwriters Laboratories, is an American safety organisation responsible for providing safety testing and certification for electrical products. Products must achieve a high standard of safety in order to be certified - so if a product is UL-tested, you can rest easy knowing that it is safe to use.

First established in 1894, UL was responsible for testing many of the 20th century's new technologies, most notably the public adoption of electricity and the drafting of safety standards for electrical devices and components.
