NMEA

Acronym for National Marine Electronics Association. An industry organization for the marine electronics industry, originally founded in the US but is now considered international. Probably their most important function for users of marine equipment is that they define the standards for the exchange of information between the electronic devices and carriers/networks for all manufacturers to develop around. There is unfortunately no NMEA standard for Ethernet at this stage, so it is not possible to share data over the Ethernet between devices produced by different manufacturers.
