In Hull or shoot-thru-hull Transducers are mounted inside the Hull of a vessel with epoxy. Not to be confused with Thru-Hull transducers! The signal "shoots through" the Hull (hence the term Shoot-thru-hull transducer) with some loss of signal strength.

 

Ideally, In Hull transducers are placed in the >Aft third of the Hull, close to the centerline. Any air pockets between the Transducer and the water will considerably reduce any signal transmitted or received, so Hull the material upon which the in-hull Transducer is mounted needs to be solid through to the water below.
