Marine Dictionary & Glossary of Boating TermsFairing BlockA shim (a thin and often tapered or wedged piece of material) installed to adjust the angle of a mounted object. Often used to ensure the correct anglular installation of a transducer to the boats hull
If installing a transducer with a wooden Fairing Block, do not install a plastic transducer as when the wooden fairing block gets wet it will swell and likely crack the transducer. Likewise when installing a Thru Hull transducer in a wooden hull - do not use a plastic encassed transducer. If you must use a plastic transducer, use a plastic fairing block. |
