We can see your HALO!

Simrad has unveiled the revolutionary HALO pulse Compression >Radar Range – the first high-performance, open-array >Radar system to utilise pulse compression technology – and winner of the prestigious 2015 DAME Technology Design Award.

The DAME Design Awards are the world’s leading annual design competition for the marine equipment and accessories, recognising the best of the best in product design - so you know you are in good hands with Simrad HALO.

Combining the best characteristics of traditional pulse and >FMCW >Broadband >Radar systems, HALO >Radar uses pulse compression to allow boaters to see both near and far (up to 72 nautical miles), also providing high target definition and minimal clutter.

Through the HALO's advanced signal processing, you will be able to see weather cells, bird activity (indicating lots of fish!), and large objects off in the distance, even in the toughest of conditions.

HALO is different from traditional pulse >Radar in that it does not rely on a high-powered magnetron or vacuum tube to transmit – allowing it to produce clear, accurate >Radar images instantly from standby and in 16-25 seconds after power-up, instead of waiting the usual 2-3 minute warm-up time for traditional pulse >Radar.

It also acts as six radars in one, transmitting bursts of pulses when set to full Range. After processing each pulse, it then creates the target image by bringing together the results of the short pulses for near ranges, and longer pulses for further away.

How does HALO measure up?

Watch both nearby collision hazards and faraway weather cells with HALO's unique combination of short and long-range performance.

The HALO's Dual Range mode also means dual MARPA target tracking with a separate Heading Sensor, offering the ability to track up to 20 targets.

Navico CEO Leif Ottoson is justifiably excited. “By introducing the HALO pulse Compression >Radar system, we have given boaters the best possible combination of features, providing the perfect mix of near and distant Range, reliability and Resolution without the associated warm-up time, power consumption, maintenance or electromagnetic emissions,” he says.

HALO boasts blue LED accent lighting, and is compatible with Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 Multifunction Display systems.
