Rutland

Marlec was formed in 1978 in Rutland, UK by the founder John Fawkes who subsequently received a Wind Energy Pioneer award from the British Wind Energy Association. As an early-retired successful engineer and businessman he was asked to investigate methods of keeping batteries topped up on farms to operate electric fence units located away from the grid.

The solution was the Rutland Windcharger a simple, reliable, quiet and efficient wind driven battery charging generator.

Marlec’s range of Rutland Windchargers has extended over the years and with a strong emphasis on product development and continuous improvment in design and performance. For example their original 50 Watts @ 10m/s (19knots) 910 series machine has undergone 2 major power improvements to achieve almost double the power today from the same diameter turbine!

In-house manufacturing of generators and other components using their own engineering workshops ensures that quality is carefully controlled and all parts and tooling are made to the highest possible standard.

Power for marine and land based applications whether you're on the move or at a permanent location Rutland Windchargers deliver power from the gentlest of breezes.

Join the tens of thousands of Rutland Windcharger users worldwide and to generate your own free source of electricity.

Purpose designed turbine – Marlec was the first wind generator manufacturer to design it's aerofoil blades and generator specifically as a wind turbine to maximise power conversion.

Low wind speed start up – they developed their stator windings without an iron core for low friction so a Rutland offers the lowest wind speed start up by far of any design.

Reliable Components – they encapsulate the stator coils in glass fibre to avoid common stator failures
simple, effective design and have afixed the shaft reducing the number of rotating parts and the need for generator brushes. With two single magnets moulded into glass fibre helping to avoid the use of multiple magnets glued into position.

Marlec operates under the international standard of ISO9001, the first small wind turbine manufacturer worldwide to achieve this.
