JM Gillies - CH Smith Marine

Since 1928, JM Gillies has supplied quality fishing tackle and now distributes over 33 different brands throughout Australia and all around the world.

It all started during in the 1930s and early post-war years. J. Malcolm Gillies, a keen fisherman and major influence in Australian fly fishing, Gillies started making rods and flies for friends during the Great Depression, then decided to set up a business and do it full-time.

Gillies sold the firm on his retirement to Tasmania in the early 1960s, but as J.M. Gillies it remains a major player in the fishing tackle business.

As of 2012, JM Gillies has distributed brands such as Classic Lures, Classic Bluewater, Platil, Scotty, Superflex, Warlock, Smilin Jacks, Pegron, Killalure and Pradco lures (including Bomber, Rebel, Heddo, Cotton Cordell and Arbogast).
