Lowrance is part of the Navico family and has been a world leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of high-quality Fish Finders and Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping instruments for more than 50 years. Carl Lowrance,, together with his sons Darrell and Arlen, some of America's first inland skin divers, learned that most fish were found in schools and recognised the need to provide fishermen with a 'magic box' to concentrate their fishing efforts.

Darrell established Lowrance in 1957 and soon after introduced the first portable fishfinding instrument for anglers – the "magic box". This invention was a monumental revolution for anglers and their fishing methods. In 1957 commercial sonar units were selling for more than $2000. The first Lowrance unit sold for less than $150 – and this tradition of quality and innovation at an affordable price continues today with >1 million Lowrance instruments being sold every year.

Lowrances' recent enhancements such as the High Definition System (HDS) fish finder / Echo Sounder range supplies the angler with a range of LCD and colour fish finders, GPS Mapping units and Radars that are second to none.
